Samsung DLP TV is Well Worth It
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m not a real technical person, so I’ll just cut to the chase. I wish I’d purchased this TV a long time ago. The channels that are broadcast in HD are fantastic and even the non-HD channels look so much better than my old TV. If you watch DVDs or Blu-Ray movies or have a PS3, you’ll be amazed. I’m seeing and hearing things on my PS3 games that I never even noticed before. And if you’re a sports fan, you won’t be sorry. Basketball, baseball, golf, hockey, ESPN, SportsCenter, etc. all look crystal clear. I can’t wait until football season starts. My only regret is that I wasn’t able to get the 61″ for a couple hundred dollars more due to space limitations. When I added a surround system to this TV, the package was complete.
help….picture color is all over the place
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have owned this model for just five months with very limited use. Recently the picture wants to continually change hue from an orange tint to yellow, back to green.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to tweak the settings to cure this problem, or is it beyond that?
When playing a blu-ray it appears fine and then the general tv(cable) can not hold a steady color. On occasion the screen goes totally black for five seconds or so before it comes back.
I will take any suggestions you can offer.
Bowing, 2nd attempt
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This is my second attempt to post a review as amazon did not publish my first. I bought the HLT5687SAX from amazon through 6ave. Before I bought this tv I had purchased the HLT5076S from circuit city, but it had numerous issues including the much talked about “bowing.” Samsung sent out a local idiot repairman named David Munster who CAN fix it but REFUSES to, saying that its not worth it to him. I returned the tv and upgraded to the HLT5687SAX thinking that the LED Light Engine was a good investment since I wouldn’t have to replace the bulbs. The tv was shipped to my local area fast (3 days) but the local company wanted to sit on it for 3 days plus they would only deliver it to the curb, so I went and picked it up myself. Long story short this tv has the same bowing issue. 6ave won’t exchange it, so I called Samsung again, who went through the same idiot repairman who this time refused to even come out and look at the tv. Samsung said they would get another repair guy to call me, but this never happened, and they won’t exchange the tv either, so I am stuck with a defective product.
Fantastic HDTV
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this TV for just over a year now. All I can say is that if you can still find one at any kind of reasonable price, buy it. This is very possibly the best technology/electronics purchase I’ve ever made (and I’ve made a lot more than a few).
The picture on this thing is just tremendous. One of the outstanding features of it is how great regular, standard-def channels look on it…particularly compared to some I’ve seen on some LCDs and plasmas. The HD is flat-out stunning. A bonus is its’ very low max power consumption of 230 watts. There are smaller screen plasmas out there that take 500 – 550 watts. No thanks — I live in Ohio where electricity is expensive.
I have an unusual shaped den that has kind of a largish niche in one wall, so I didn’t need a flat panel for (presumably) space-saving purposes. This thing is still only about 11 inches deep. An old-style 26″ tube set is probably a lot thicker than this.
After I had it for a month or two and realized it was the best TV I’d ever owned (and was definitely a keeper), I bought two cabinets to put on either side to hold the DVD player, TIVO, etc. and then had a cabinet maker make a custom stand for the TV that matched the side piers. Sweet.
Does Stereoscopic nicely
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased this item for stereoscopic content playback. This it does nicely. The quality of the picture is on par with the cost. This is a very nice tv for the price. I will note that I have not played any 2D content on it yet. The three HDMI inputs are very handy. I have driven my computer at 1920×1080 it looks pretty good as long as you are at least 6 feet back. Out of the box the image was not exact. I had to get the service code and really tweak the image. Out of the box the top of the image had a large noticeable arch. The good thing for me was that the service mode has a huge amount of control over the set. If you need stereoscopic playback there is no better solution for the price. If you are interested in 3D playback you will need a computer, stereoscopic active glasses and software. Almost any computer with DVI out will do. The glasses and software are around $250.
One other thing I love about the set is how light it is. One person on each end can pick it up with one hand easily.
Comparing Apples WITH apples !

I patiently did the Homework. The Comments were and are the best idea for consumers who want the peace of mind they made the Best Choice . Customer comments, such as “buy the Next size up”, because the stations transmit smaller images than the screen size YOU purchased,
ex: 56″ screen displays a 46″ in the 4:3 transmission on cable networks.
Amazon was a Good first time experience. Research/ Buying/Delivery and Product is just what you should expect. I purchased the Samsung Surrond to compliment the Large Screen, and if you want to save more time and money, purchase the Optical and HDMI Cables OnLine as well, the Local dealers Are more expensive , including the delivery charge (if there is one online from Amazon). Consumer Reports substantiated my homework as well in recent issues. Thank You Amazon & Samsung .
Great Product, fast Shipment, good Customer Service. What more could you ask for?

Wow this thing is just awsome. When I first ordered it and heard the company shipped it via cargo I anticipated having to wait MONTHS in receiving it but in actuality it took less than a full week. After getting it delivered it hooked up with ease and the picture is just awsome. 1080i and the new digital tv stations is just out of this world. Like any other format change we’ve encountered (tapes to CD’s, VCR tapes to DVDs, regular tv to Digital) I expected little or no difference but now I’m super glad the government’s forcing the switch over. This TV needs no receiver or anything to receive the digital tv and I’d recommend it to anyone.
Best Value for your Dollar

If you don’t need a super thin TV set, this set has an amazing picture at an even better price point. When compared to similarly featured LCD and Plasma sets, you simply cannot beat the price of this TV. The resolution and color rendering are the best I have personally seen. I only have a standard DVD player, but plan to upgrade to an upconverting or HD disk player in the near future. With a standard RGB input from my DVD player, the picture is still very good. I saw a demo set in Circuit City with a Blue Ray player hooked up and that was what put the final nail in my coffin. WOW!
I was afraid that the “limited viewing angle” would be a big problem for when I have guests over and we all wanted to watch, but was pleasantly surprised at how wide it actually is.
The LED light engine makes this set cooler and less noisy than other DLP televisions and also the brightness is unbelievable. I actually had to reduce the brightness setting to ease the stress on my eyes. The LED’s are also supposed to last the life of the TV so I am not worried about the cost of replacing a bulb every couple of years.
If you want a great TV without breaking the bank, drop your money here. I can promise that you won’t be disappointed.
Lovin it so far……………………………………………………

So far I am really impressed by this Tele! The shipping experience went well. The delivery man brought the TV into my foyer and waited until I could plug in the set to the cable for an ops check. The picture is so much better than I am accustom to. Colors are vivid and HD channels look great. Standard channels are much better than my old CRT 55″. Whats even better is watching a movie from Pixar Studios with a 1080P up-converting DVD player. The picture looks 3D. You can’t beat this Samsung for the price. If the LED engine lasts as long as they say, this will be one of my all-time best purchases. Thanks to Amazon and 6th Ave. for a great purchasing experience.
15 months only
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This TV was fine for 15 months, and then the red led or something to that effect failed today so we now have a blue-green tv. Of course amazon only has a 30 day warranty and samsung only has a 365 day warranty (unless you pay extra)so we are stuck. I will post again if the local repair facility is able to fix it in a short and cost effective manner.
If not, my advice is to not buy from samsung.
I’m with you P and J! I’ve had my Samsung HLT5087SAX LED DLP for almost 2 years and now I’m stuck with a blue-greenish tv!! I bought this tv b/c it’s supposed to last! And of course I didn’t get the extended warrenty!
P and J, F and A…My Dlp did the same thing to me last night. Any idea on what is causing this problem? Can it be fixed and at what cost? I’m hoping I can fix it on my own.
Just wanted to drop a note about samsungs hlt5087s series… I bought mine bout 2 yrs ago and I now have a shadow effect on my left side of the screen ..bout 2in wide from top to bottom. I called samsung an they said nothing they could do…I looked into it and found that samsung has a class action suit against them. reason being ALOT of people have this problem. good luck with samsung .I will NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN!!! Oh, I did call a tech and was informed that it would cost me bout 600 to 800 to fix …yeah..right.
